Roofing Design Configurator on SuiteCommerce Advanced

Overview

A B2B roofing manufacturer with more than $100 million in annual revenue runs its business on NetSuite. Many of its products are built to the customer's own roof design, and those products couldn't be sold through its web store at all. We implemented SuiteCommerce Advanced and built custom features so customers can design, quote and order those products online, with each design going straight to manufacturing.

The challenge

The existing web store couldn't support how the manufacturer's customers buy:
  • Products that required a roofing design couldn't be shown or ordered online.
  • Customers needed to adjust quotes with their own markups, logos and their end customer's tax rates.
  • Packing fees, minimum order fees and surcharges had to be applied by business rules, not by hand.
  • Customer companies needed to add and manage their own buyers instead of asking the manufacturer to set up every user.

The solution

We extended SuiteCommerce Advanced with four custom features.

Roofing design configurator

Using HTML canvas, we built a configurator into the web store where customers draw the roofing design for products that require one. Customers can save designs as templates and reuse them on later orders. Each submitted design is rendered as a PDF for the manufacturer's production team, so manufacturing works from the exact drawing the customer approved.

Custom quote functionality

Customers can modify quotes directly: add markups, apply their own logos and adjust for their end customer's tax rates. That puts them in control of their purchasing process without calling the manufacturer for every change.

Automatic additional charges

Business logic automatically applies additional charges such as packing fees, minimum order fees and surcharges. Pricing stays accurate while the fee structure stays flexible across product types and order sizes.

Customer admin user management

We created a customer admin role built on NetSuite's native Customer Center role. Each customer company's admin can add and assign its own users from the web store, so the client's team no longer has to set up every login.

The outcome

  • Design-to-order products sold online: products that need a roofing design, previously impossible to sell through the web store, can now be designed, quoted and ordered there.
  • Faster repeat orders: saved design templates let customers reuse earlier designs instead of starting over.
  • A clean hand-off to manufacturing: production receives a PDF of the exact design, removing a manual step between sales and the shop floor.
  • Consistent pricing: markups, end-customer tax rates and additional charges are applied by rules, not by hand.
  • Self-service user management: customer admins manage their own buyers, reducing account set-up work for the manufacturer's team.

Conclusion

This project shows how SuiteCommerce Advanced and targeted custom development, built on native NetSuite records and roles, can bring complex, design-to-order products into a B2B web store and connect them directly to manufacturing.
